About

Based in Burlington, Vermont, Isaiah Ruhe is a muralist and screen printer who creates work rooted in an insatiable curiosity about the human condition and interconnectivity. In a world increasingly saturated  with advertising, construction, and visual messaging shaped by commercial interests, Isaiah's work seeks to reclaim public spaces and inspire those in them to consider their nature, their relation to each other and the world around them. After spending 5 years working under Greta McLain of GoodSpace Murals and alongside Common Wealth Murals, he has begun an independent practice spanning multiple disciplines all driven by this same goal.

His work explores the collective human condition, drawing inspiration from a deep fascination with psychology, philosophy, and metaphysics. Through these lenses, he seeks to express the complexities of human experience, our shared inner worlds, and the often unseen forces that shape how we perceive ourselves and relate to one another. Combining flowing organic abstractions with portraiture and other collaged elements he prompts his viewers to consider the nuance and depth of their experience with themselves and others. His work aims to capture the hard to describe aspects of everyday life that infuse even the most mundane experiences with richness. Isaiah jumps between mediums taking advantage of the unique aesthetics of brush, spraypaint, pencil, pen, silkscreen printing, and video in order to best convey these ideas.

At its core, his work asks us to reconsider who public spaces are designed to serve, what it means to be human, and how art can help create environments that feel more grounded, intentional, and connected to the communities that call them home.
